Understanding the Indramat E250 Warning Code

Indramat EcoDrive Controller with e250 warning title

Indramat error codes are divided into fault codes and warning codes. Fault codes require immediate attention and stop the system operation, whereas warning codes indicate a potential issue that could escalate if not addressed quickly. Warning codes usually start with an 'E' and are followed by three numbers, displaying alternately as, for example, 'E2' and '50'.

The E250 error code, according to the drive controller's user manual, alerts to a drive overtemperature condition, meaning the drive's temperature has exceeded normal levels and could lead to a system failure if not cooled down promptly. If this warning is ignored, it could progress to a more serious F250 fault code.

The drive controller's design includes a heatsink that can tolerate up to a certain temperature limit. If this limit is reached, the system will continue operating for about 30 seconds before it shuts down, giving the operator a brief window to halt the drive controller's axis safely, conserving the ongoing processes.

If corrective measures are not taken within these 30 seconds, the drive controller will automatically initiate a shutdown sequence based on the optimal deceleration parameter, A119.

Causes of the E250 Warning Code

This warning code, suggestive of overheating, could stem from a few simple issues such as:

- A malfunctioning blower in the drive controller that is failing to dissipate heat effectively.

- Inadequate climate control in the control cabinet, which might be due to damage or improper cabinet size.

- Blocked air channels hindering proper ventilation.

FAQs

How is the E250 warning code resolved?

Addressing the E250 error involves a few straightforward steps. Start by inspecting the drive controller's internal blower for defects. If the blower is operational, assess the condition and sizing of the control cabinet, and replace it if found inadequate. If everything else checks out, make sure the air channels are not blocked to ensure efficient air flow.

Is it possible to handle the E250 warning code internally?

While the fixes for this warning code are relatively simple, involving a professional is recommended for parts replacement to avoid further issues. However, if the problem is just blocked air passages and you have the skills, you could potentially clear these obstructions yourself.
